Moving away from home for the first time can be a super exciting and fun experience. With the way the world has been, it’s only fair to be a little anxious about sharing your new home away from home and so, today’s topic should help all of you who are moving into some of our student accommodation!
This year things are a little different when it comes to living with other people. We all have a responsibility, not only to ourselves, but to others around us to stay safe and aware of how we interact with one another. Sometimes it isn’t always clear about how we can stay safe in a new environment, but with the help of the Brighton Students’ Team, we have created a helpful top tip list of how you can stay safe in halls and shared accommodation this year. Please do not let the panic of social media get you down, we the SU have got you covered and will help you get through this period of uncertainty. Here are the top 3 tips on how to stay safe in shared accommodation: 1. Buy a thermometer and some anti-bacterial wipes so that you can wipe it down before any usage. Having a thermometer would be useful as it would allow to see if in fact you really do have a fever, or if it something else that it is going around making you feel a little run down. 2. In the Kitchen - Have your own stuff! I know that normally in the spirit of shared living, you may want to share appliances, however this is something that we strongly advise against. Keep your cups, cookery equipment and all other kitchen appliances to yourself so that you don’t have to worry about someone else not cleaning as rigorously as you do. 3. In the bathroom – Have a rota If there is someone in your household that needs to self-isolate, make sure that they are the last ones to use the bathroom. Do not share hand towels, bars of soap or anything else with them, until the 14-day self-isolation period has passed. This is to ensure safety not only for the person who is self-isolating but for the entire household. It is always important to be considerate to one another during this period of uncertainty we are currently experiencing is not easy on anyone. We want you to feel safe no matter where you are, and it's all the little things that count!
